I read Emma first when I was 14 and loved it too. If you don't mind a plot that's long-winded and takes its time, and you also don't mind interpreting older English, you should be fine. Still, I do think this adaptation more than adequately makes the classic accessible and would recommend this book for children around 8-12, with the extra note that with younger kids, it might be helpful (and enjoyable) to read it with a parent or older sibling/friend.

This is one of my all time favorite books. Easily good for a 14 year old, and most 13 year olds should be fine.
