No you don't. SoM and SoW are highly rated and beloved games but definitely not for their plot/script. I think you should be fine by playing the 2nd game only, because the whole point of the series is all about the gameplay (combat oriented and carried by the amazing Nemesis system).

However, those looking for even more of a challenge – or who have played through the game before – may opt to try out the Gravewalker difficulty in Shadow of War instead.Shadow of War's true ending is gated behind an endgame grind – so players are sharing it for all to see. If you want to see the true Middle-earth: Shadow of War ending, then unfortunately you could be facing a long and gruelling grind to get there.
