Is Age of Empires 4 easier than 2 : I've always found two really challenging and have only beaten hard AI once, but I consistently lose. I bought age 4 recently and found the AI quite passive and within 20 game hours I've beaten it on hard. I just hit the 30 mark and I feel almost ready to beat hardest. The AI seems so easy!!!

Which is better, Age of Empires 2 or 3

I consider AOE2DE far better than AOE3DE. I won't say you are wrong, just that we have different play styles and preferences. Mostly cause the AoE III has much more different playing style with the home cities and cards. They're not really comparable imo.

If you are only buying one (and this is in the most literal sense) go with AOE 2, the game simply has more content and is more refined.
