I enjoy playing it solo, but many other people do not. My suggestion is just to give it a try and see if you like it. It's free to play, so the only "cost" is going to download bandwidth and maybe a bit of time if you don't end up liking it. games dead wouldn't even bother.

You can definitely enjoy it single player, but in my opinion it's not as fun. What I do recommend is probably setting up your own server and play with trusted friends, which is what I did. It wasn't as difficult to setup either from what I remember.
