What order should I play The Evil Within

Beat the base game first. Then play the two Kidman DLCs, Assignment and Consequence. They actually take place during the course of the main game, showing her perspective on events. You want to play it after beating the base game as it spoils some things that should be mysteries during the base game.

Does Evil Within 2 continue the story : It's a continuation but to be perfectly blunt, you don't need to play the first if you don't want to. I LOVE the series, but for newbies, starting at TEW 2 is my advice. At least not from Sebastian or Kidmans point of view. The story is pretty much done, even if you see the machines power up at the end, it might be Ruvik. But he doesn't really matter anymore since you are done with that and left the past behind.

It's absolutely worth playing through the first game – both to have context for the sequel, and to experience its weird convoluted story. That said, you may or may not want to do it, and that depends on your tolerance to jank.
