Gruit Ales

Gruit ales, or simply Gruits, are an ancient brew. They were brewed all over the European continent (and beyond) between 700 and 1700 AD. During that period brewers used many types of Gruit herbs for flavorings and bittering agents.They all have hops in them and none of them are sweet. Many Oktoberfest-style beers are low in bitterness and hop flavor and emphasize the sweeter malt flavors. weissbiers are also low in hop flavor and bitterness.Until the 17th century, hops weren't allowed in English ales, and Germany didn't require hops in its official brewing laws until 1906. For many centuries, a vast majority of the beer made around the world used other spices and botanicals for flavor. That kind of botanical beer is called a gruit (pronounced groo-it).

What is non hoppy beer : There are a ton of non-Hoppy beers. Also… Coors, Miller, Bud are not hopped almost at all and are considered American Adjunct Lagers rather than Pal Ales (let alone IPAs which are typically more bitter than Pale Ales) so it's probably not just hops she dislikes but the flavor as a whole.
