The modern F1 car can reach speeds of roughly 220mph on average when bombing down long straights. Is W14 faster : In my opinion, the W14 is not a bad car. Probably 2nd best or 3rd best car on the grid in a race situation. But the fan base just WANTS to see the W14. Overall, the car is quick, not the quickest, but incredibly reliable.

Did F1 ever use V12

I know the V10 turned out to be the better compromise between power & weight in the end, but V12s were also quite competitive during the few years they were used in F1. In 1991, both the WDC and the WCC were won with Honda's V12s, but by 1994, Ferrari was the only V12 engine in F1.

By the end of the 1994 season, Ferrari's Tipo 043 V12 was putting out around 850 hp (634 kW) @ 15,800 rpm, which is to date the most-powerful naturally-aspirated V12 engine ever used in Formula One.Developing an F1 engine, even back in the simpler days of the 70's, was expensive. When you then multiply the complexity of the V12 into the 'bespoke' race engine price tag, the cost only rises. Ferrari had the budget and resources, few others did, hence the key reason there have been so few V12s.
