Jay Gatsby

She is narrator Nick Carraway's second cousin, once removed, and the wife of polo player Tom Buchanan, with whom she has a daughter. Before marrying Tom, Daisy had a romantic relationship with Jay Gatsby. Her choice between Gatsby and Tom is one of the novel's central conflicts.Although Gatsby truly loved Daisy, this love was one-sided because Daisy was only attracted to Gatsby because of his wealth and status.It is difficult for a person to know what he or she is feeling. Often a feeling can be misinterpreted to be something it is not. In The Great Gatsby, Jay Gatsby is obsessed with Daisy Buchanan, he is clinging to the past, desperately trying to relive the romance of his youth.

Why is Nick obsessed with Gatsby : Nick is particularly taken with Gatsby and considers him a great figure. He sees both the extraordinary quality of hope that Gatsby possesses and his idealistic dream of loving Daisy in a perfect world.

Did Daisy really love Tom

Daisy marries Tom because of his wealth, but throughout their relationship she does, fall in love with Tom at least once. Also, Tom uses his money to basically buy Daisy's love showing that he wants to have love in his life.

Does Nick actually like Gatsby : Nick is also unreliable because of his fondness for Gatsby, which affects his view of the story and is contrasted by his clear distaste for the other characters in the book.

Daisy chose Tom because Gatsby was away at war and Tom was there and interested in her. She needed the structure that he provided. "That force took shape in the middle of the spring with the arrival of Tom Buchanan" (Fitzgerald 151).

(Fitzgerald 155-56) Daisy's influence over Gatsby due to what her voice expresses cannot be disregarded. Daisy's voice is a crucial part of what makes Gatsby fall in love with her. Driving men to madness and submission with the help of her voice, Daisy comes to control Gatsby with gentle whispers.

Was Carraway in love with Gatsby

This is at the very end of the novel. Of the late Gatsby, Tom says, “That fellow had it coming to him. He threw dust in your eyes just like he did in Daisy's….” And that's why it matters that Nick is gay and in love with Gatsby: because Tom's assessment is spot-on, but Nick will never admit it.This inner conflict is symbolized throughout the book by Nick's romantic affair with Jordan Baker. He is attracted to her vivacity and her sophistication just as he is repelled by her dishonesty and her lack of consideration for other people.In a queer reading of Gatsby, Nick doesn't just love Gatsby, he's in love with him. Did Daisy really want to marry Tom : ' Jordan recounts to Nick the story of Daisy's wedding day, when Daisy got drunk and told Jordan that she did not want to marry Tom. Her decision to return the pearls ends up being purely symbolic, however, because she finally does wed Tom for his wealth and high social standing.

Even though she was still in love with Gatsby, Daisy most likely married Tom because she knew he could provide her with more material comforts. In Chapter 4 Jordan recounts how, the day before the wedding, she found Daisy drunk, sobbing, and clutching a letter.

However, Gatsby forces them to confront their feelings in the Plaza Hotel when he demands Daisy say she never loved Tom. Although she gets the words out, she immediately rescinds them—"I did love [Tom] once but I loved you too!"—after Tom questions her.This is at the very end of the novel.
